Paper Treasures: Women’s Knowledge amongst the Ursulines

Collectible item, educational tool, vehicle of knowledge: books serve multiple purposes. It accompanied the Ursuline nuns daily, through their devotional practices, their hymns, the education they gave to young girls, through the care they provided to the patients who attended their hospital.
Assembled throughout the past two centuries, the Ursulines’ Rare and Ancient Books Library contains more than 4,500 volumes, some of which date back to the 16th century.
The exhibition features numerous items from this collection, selected to highlight five major fields of knowledge represented within the library: Science, History and Literature, Music, Visual Arts and Medicine.
On display at the Musée des Ursulines de Trois-Rivières, from 25 February to 31 December 2027.
